The five aspects of the psyche form an interrelated cycle, in which each gives energy to or "breeds" the next. The primal energies of P'o and Chih are the fuel for the motivating force of Hun, which propels us to carry out the creative impulses of Shen, which gives rise to the acceptant empathy of +I', which facilitates the openness of P'o, which makes more energy available for the resolution of Chih, which is the fuel for the assertiveness of Hun*, which breeds joy ….

    I appreciate seeing this graphic representation! I’ve never seen this diagram and it’s helpful to have the visual analogue in mind.

    It’s like a compass I can use to check my position.

    Sometimes I don’t care what my position is…but sometimes the flow of vitality is so massive that the mind feels a need to grasp onto something like a concept.

    Like a child wanting just to feel the bottom of the pool on her feet before she can relax and just let the water bear her up.
